In Memoriam

With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week. Larry LaPrise, the man who wrote “The Hokey Pokey”, died peacefully at age 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in. And then the trouble started.

LOS ANGELES – The minister known as Reverend Ike, who preached the gospel of material prosperity to millions nationwide, died Tuesday. He was 74.
In the 1970s, Reverend Ike was one of the first evangelists to reach an audience of millions through television.
"This is the do-it-yourself church," he proclaimed. "The only savior in this philosophy is God in you."
His critics said he preyed on the poor and conned the faithful into giving him donations that he spent on cars, clothes and homes for himself. The IRS and the Postal Service investigated his businesses.

I don't make these things up!

An alleged burglar is behind bars after being identified by his unusual facial tattoo – an outline of the state of Florida.

Sean Roberts, 19, was picked out by alleged victims who recognised the striking shape inked onto his left cheek. Roberts, who also has his nickname "Crazy Cracker" written on his head, is accused of stealing prescription drugs, cash and electrical equipment in an armed raid on a mobile home in Tampa, Florida.

With accomplice Billie Kiser, 28, he broke into the property at 5am and threatened the residents, forcing them into a bathroom while he rifled through their belongings, local police said.
But Roberts forgot to cover his face during the July 8 raid, and his victims recognised his prominent tattoo in photos of possible suspects shown to them by police.

MARINE MATH The Korean War, in which the Marine Corps fought and won some of its most brutal battles, was not without its gallows humor. During one such conflict a ROK (Republic of Korea) commander, whose unit was fighting along with the Marines, called legendary Marine General Chesty Puller, to report a major Chinese attack in his sector. "How many Chinese are attacking you?" asked Puller. "Many, many Chinese!" replied the excited Korean officer. General Puller asked for another count and got the same answer, "Many, many, many Chinese!" "X*#dammit!" swore Puller, "Put my Marine liaison officer on the radio." In a minute, an American voice came over the air: "Yes sir?" "Lieutenant, " growled Chesty, "exactly how many Chinese you got up there?" "General, we got a whole shit load of Chinese up here!" "Thank God." exclaimed Puller, "At least there's someone up there who knows how to count.

"...one of these days you and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children, and our children's children, what it once was like in America when men were free. "

Sumptin' to ponder

"The notion of political correctness has ignited controversy across the land. And although the movement arises from the laudable desire to sweep away the debris of racism and sexism and hatred it replaces old prejudices with new ones. It declares certain topics off-limits, certain expressions off-limits, even certain gestures off-limits. What began as a crusade for civility has soured into a cause of conflict and even censorship."
